LUMI AI Factory introduces new services and website updates 

We have updated our service catalogue! New services have been published to offer better support for startups, SMEs, large enterprises, public organisations, academia, and research institutions at different stages of AI development. 

The new services provide practical guidance on regulatory compliance, opportunities to explore LUMI supercomputer through low-risk trials, and accessible tools for experimenting with machine learning models.

– Our new “AI Journey” map shows you the way through the AI Factory from exploring the possibilities to deploying your project. The new service categories will help you and us find together the best services to suit your AI development needs, says Kalle Huhtala, Senior Project Manager in LUMI AI Factory. 

Four new services listed below were introduced to enhance user experience!

1. Expert consultation on Trustworthy AI development

This new service helps you assess AI systems against EU AI Act requirements, offering early risk analysis, expert guidance, and practical recommendations to support compliant and trustworthy development. Guidance is non-binding. 

2. Initial risk analysis consultation – EU AI Act Compliance Checker

Initial risk analysis consultation supports early-stage AI development by clarifying your system’s regulatory and ethical context under the EU AI Act. Through a guided session using the AI Act Compliance Checker, you receive an initial risk analysis, helping reduce uncertainty and support a smoother path to trustworthy AI. Includes a one-hour LUMI AIF expert session. Guidance is non-binding.

3. Try&Buy – easy way to try AI computing resources

This service allows companies to trial LUMI supercomputer through a “Try&Buy” project, enabling evaluation of its suitability before committing to a full investment. Try&Buy project includes limited-time access to compute and storage resources, user credentials, documentation, and expert support. After the trial, companies can continue with a paid contract or discontinue use without obligation.

4. Aitta ML Inference Service – run machine learning model inference on a powerful computing system

Inference Service “Aitta” enables low-threshold access to machine learning model inference on the LUMI supercomputer for research and development. It offers a range of models for tasks such as image recognition, natural language processing, and data analysis, accessible via user-friendly interfaces and APIs. Aitta supports experimentation and application development but is not intended for production use or processing sensitive data.

Introducing new service categories in our updated service catalogue

In addition to the new services, we have made our services more accessible by grouping the existing services into new service categories. You can now browse our service catalogue through structured categories, each guiding you to individual services. These seven categories provide you a seamless access to LUMI AI Factory’s services:

Data catalogue makes LUMI AI Factory DaaS datasets reliably accessible

The LUMI AI Factory Dataset-as-a-Service (DaaS) data catalogue has been published using the Fairdata services. Fairdata services are national open science services that provide storage, description, and discovery services for research data in accordance with the FAIR principles. 

Previously, LUMI AI Factory DaaS used a demo catalogue, which was phased out in this update. The new catalogue makes LUMI AI Factory DaaS datasets reliably accessible. The new data catalogue introduces several improvements, for example: 

• You can find citation information in several widely used citation styles. 
• For geographically bound datasets, you can view their geographic coverage on a map. 
• You can see how many users have viewed the dataset information. 
• The user interface is available in both Finnish and English. 

The catalogue also introduces updates to the metadata of the datasets. In the future, data location can be specified as a file path, and datasets can be given file size information.
